Africa

The African continent attracts a great attention and a special care by H.H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahayan, President of the U.A.E. and Founder of this Foundation. Therefore, the Foundation has so far spent around USD 17 millions on different projects in African countries and such amount represents 19% of the total spending. Amongst the most distinguished projects are:

KENYA

Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahayan Mosque in Nairobi:

The Foundation constructed this mosque as an Islamic and cultural landmark in the heart of Nairobi City. It is considered to be one of the tourist attractions of the Kenyan capital and the most prominent Islamic centre in East Africa. Its construction cost reached USD 3.5 millions and it was officially opened in March 1999. It can take up to 15 thousand persons and it provides modern and developed services. This mosque with all its modern advanced attachments such as the library, the study classes and the lecture halls is an Islamic work of art designed to match the African Islamic style.

Zayed Children Welfare Centre in Mombassa:

This project has been set up by the honorable commands of H.H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahayan to help the orphans of Kenya. One of the things that make this project quite distinctive is that it annexes another U.A.E. welfare project, i.e. Sheikh Khalifah Bin Zayed High School. The total cost of this centre is around USD 3.5 millions and it is run by the Foundation with a capacity of 150 orphans providing them with accommodation, food, health care and of course education.

IVORY COAST

The Foundation is participating with USD 6 millions in setting up “Mosque of Plateau” in the capital Abidjan, the total cost of which goes up to USD 20 millions. It is expected to be one of the most distinctive Islamic landmarks in the African continent.

TANZANIA

The Foundation helped this African country by rehabilitating the main hospital in the city of Zanzibar “Mnazi Mmoja Hospital” with a total cost of USD 1.5 millions. The Foundation further provided the said hospital with modern medical equipment. It was opened in the year 1999 and since then it continues to provide medical services to quite a large number of patients.

Simple Donations to Africa:

Due to the many calamities and disasters that hit the African Continent, the Foundation never sustained from extending its helping hand to a number of African countries in the form of relief works or simple donations to welfare, social and medical centres and associations. Similarly, the Foundation continues to support the Islamic centres in this continent in addition to printing and distributing the Holy Quran “Warsh Version” and sending many poor African Muslims to Haj every year.
